I am an associate professor at School of Artificial Intelligence, Sun Yat-sen University. I received my Ph.D. at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where my supervisor is Prof. Xiaojuan Ma. I had a wonderful short postdoctoral experience with Prof. Antti Oulasvirta at Aalto University. I obtained my bachelor's degree at ESE from Nanjing University.

Research

My research focuses on the areas of Human-Computer Interaction, Social Computing, and Large Models. I build computational models to understand complex human interaction in social media and develop novel user interfaces that argument human ability in higher-order thinking activities. My HaiA (Human-AI Augmentation) lab mainly conduct three lines of research:

  • Understanding People: Based on multimodal data in social media, we build computational models to understand people's mental health social support, argumentative behaviors, and so on. Such understandings contribute to the field of social science and inform the designs of user interfaces to address people's unmet needs.
  • Facilitate Users: We develop interfaces to ease the process and improve the outcome of higher-order thinking tasks, including information seeking, mental health problem solving, critical reading (e.g., scientific papers, news), creative designs (e.g., Chinese paintings), and lesson planning.
  • Teach Users: We develop interfaces that teach users knowledge (e.g., second language, visual design) and skills (e.g., critical thinking, teaching), so that they can independently complete tasks without AI support next time.
